•The History of Jane Mitchell

"History" is the key word in that
last sentence, having just finished blowing out the candles on my
cake that represented the half-century mark! I am enjoying the wisdom
and focus that 50 brings but pining for the days when I sat my children
all around teaching them the Words of God-the teacher learns the most!
I have been married for 29 years to Mickey Mitchell, my first love,
who is currently on a ministerial staff in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We have
been blessed with 4 children and one great son-in-law who, at present,
has one dog with no interest in her grandma teaching her anything.
Beware of a teacher that has no children of her own to teach!!!
I have a M.A. in Education and have been working with kids…well,
if you count babysitting as a young girl, all my life. After completing
my education, I taught school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. An after-school
program was offered in which I participated. This program was run
by Jack Gray, the founder of Bible Bowl. I worked in that program
for 2 seasons. Our home church picked up this program and I began
working with this program with my children involved. THEN history
changed after I had one child after another (the very chapter of my
life!!) At home, working out of a closet where the typewriter was
located (I am telling the truth), I developed the curriculum that
took my children through The Picture Bible beginning with Creation
and ending with the story of Paul.
After 14 years of taking my children through the program, I decided
to market Bible Blast after much interest from other churches. Now
coming up on year 18 in the program, I continue to run my own Bible
Blast program AND the junior high program called Bible Biz. When Bible
Blast families graduated, I began a program for junior high. It came
from a need to keep my children in the Word. The emphasis of this
program is to transfer the discipline of studying God's Word from
the parents to the young person. With a lot of fun and incentive,
IT WORKS. Young people learn how to study the Bible, take it and grab
the promises for themselves.
The success of Bible Blast is proof positive that parents, given the
tool, want to teach their own children God's words and use the church
as a community to support their efforts. Thank you for sharing this
vision with me.
