FAQs

Exactly what age would benefit from the Bible Biz program?

Bible Biz is a program designed for 5th grade through high school. It can then be divided up for the lesson and quizzing to make it more age appropriate. For example, 5-8th and 9th-12th separated into groups.

What books of the Bible are available for study in Bible Biz thus far?

The book of Acts and John are currently available.

What is the calendar set up for Bible Biz?

Bible Biz is done in any setting and calendar design. The most frequent way Bible Biz is utilized is within the school calendar, from September through the end of April. Each book in the Bible is divided into 4 semesters. It takes two years to complete each book.

If you are considering this for a school-year program, there are 10 weeks per semester of study. With an orientation event up front plus a review event at the end of the semester, that leaves a 12- week course per semester. December is usually excluded.

Does Bible Biz have extensive memory and questions to learn each week?

Bible Biz is design for the students at both extremes. It will teach the student who does no weekly Bible study or the student who dives in each day to God's words. No students will feel behind or excluded because they did not do their devotional through the week.

Memory is optional for Bible Biz. There is a set memory schedule programmed into the weekly devotionals for those students who want that challenge. Of course the director can add incentives to reward those who complete their memory. One suggestion is for the group to be offered the chance to take a trip or adventure per semester for those who complete a minimum of 15 verses per semester. This trip rewards and solidifies the Bible Biz group. There are as many as 60 memory verses per semester that are within this study that are optional.

Does this program exclude those that don’t study and don’t do memory?

No, No, No.  This question is repeated to emphasize that Bible Biz is designed to meet the needs of the church for all young people-those who have discipline and those who are learning. Getting into God's Word is a discipline and Bible Biz begins to take young people from milk and teaches them how to chew 'beef jerky' if you will. This course of study does not exclude those that are just beginning to ruminate in God's words. Students will learn each week whether or not they 'belly up' to the banquet table each day. Through the weekly lessons and videos, the student begins to place line upon line and precept upon precept. It is exciting to see this happen!!!!

What does a typical weekly meeting look like for Bible Biz?

Bible Biz can be done any day of the week.  A typical meeting would last 60-90 minutes.

Optional memory recitation time before meeting.

                                Prayer

                                Announcements

Video (specific video suggest will follow)

Lesson on specific verses covered that week

                                Quiz Time

What materials are needed for the students in Bible Biz?

Bible Biz is a course and three items are needed per student.

(Numbers 1 and 2 will last the entire time in Bible Biz)

        1. NIV Study Bible. Pages and charts and maps are referred to in this study and any substitute would be confusing for the student.

       2. The Layman’s Bible Dictionary This paperback book is a reference dictionary for the student to begin learning how to digest each and every word in the Bible.

One consumable devotional Bible Biz book. This book will have 5 devotionals that will take the student through 5 days of study completing 20-30 verses per week.

Are there any other mandatory items a student would need to be successful in Bible Biz?

No!—but the list below are optional “things” that make Biz more organized for the student AND director.

"Stuff Cards" are available to order. These are laminated cards that help students keep track of the memory they have completed and the points they have accumulated. A corresponding card is available for the director to keep track as well. These are called "Record-Keeping Cards."

Another optional item is a serious Bible cover that holds the required texts, devotional and dictionary.

What material does the director need in Bible Biz?

The director will need the following student items and the questions for each week's quizzing time.  The questions are available to order.

Where can I get the Video that goes along with the book of Acts?

Contact Bible Blast for needed information. The video series is a grouping of four videos that cover the entire book of Acts, word for word, using the NIV version. nestentertainment.com has the pricing you will need. It is simply called "Acts." The video is optional in Bible Biz, but it is such a good resource. The student is given the written Word to study at home, the weekly lesson from the director, and the video. This way, God's Word is applied three ways.

What is Quiz time?

Quiz time during Bible Biz is the fun part! It is the "gaming" element that young people love. The director is in front of the group with the questions and answers. The director may use a quizzing machine where each student has a hand pad to buzz into the director's answer pad. This pad indicates who buzzed in first giving that person the ability to answer. If your budget does not allow for this, simply dividing up into teams is fun as well. Further directions of just what the rules of the game are can be answered later.

These questions are not given out each week for the students to learn. There is a specific, definite reason for this. Bible Biz is designed for the student to study and meditate on the words God has given that specific week. The student is encouraged to study the devotions and the words of God, and the questions come from that. If questions were given out to study, the student would simply repeat answers and substitute study for trivial gaming.

How can I get the Buzzer machine?

The Buzzer machine is like most academic challenge machines, with a director's panel that lights up when the student's hand buzzer is pushed. It is very simple. Bible Blast can suggest one company that will give you a 10% discount for mentioning Bible Blast or Bible Biz, but there are many companies out there that offer machines.

The cost could be as low as $400 for one director's panel, a set-up for 32 students' hand pads and a timer (of course less hand pads means less money). Contact Bible Blast with questions about expanding into three or four teams at once.

Keep in mind: you don't need a machine to do Biz. The quizzing part may be as simple as dividing up in teams and asking the questions. The Buzzer machines just add a lot of fun and 'zip' to the program. The kids love it!

What prizes are given for winning the quiz?

It will amaze you just what young people will do for a candy bar. Two big buckets for the both "Winners" and "Not Winners" can be filled with candy or school incidentals. The young people will go crazy for anything. They love to compete and have fun.

In addition to a weekly fun reward, you can give each young person a "chip" (some sort of thing) for answering each question, being on time, having their Bible, wearing a green shirt… (Have fun with this!) At the end of the semester, tally up points-per-chip and give awards. The young people love words of encouragement and recognition spoken over them---don't we all??
